Jonas Schlagowsky grew up in Sillenstede in Friesland and discovered acting in the theater group at his High School, Mariengymnasium Jever. After graduating from high school, he studied acting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main.
While still a student, he played Richard in DNA by Dennis Kelly, directed by Robert Schuster, at Schauspiel Frankfurt. This production was awarded the Günther Rühle Prize 2011 for the best acting ensemble performance at the Week of Young Actors in Bensheim. Jonas Schlagowsky has made guest appearances at the Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Landesbühne Marburg, the Theater Heidelberg and the Schauspielhaus Zürich, where he worked with Christian Stückl. Jonas Schlagowsky's first permanent engagement was at the Saarländisches Staatstheater in 2012.
From 2013 to 2019, Jonas Schlagowsky was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar. Here he played roles including Hamlet under the direction of Robert Schuster, Ferdinand in "Kabale und Liebe", Mortimer in "Maria Stuart", Malvolio in "Twelfth night", Debuisson in Heiner Müller's "The mission" and in Schillers "Wallenstein" directed by Hasko Weber. For his portrayal of Demetrius in "A Midsummer Night's Dream", he was nominated as "Young Actor of the Year" in the 2016 critics' poll conducted by Theater heute magazine.
Jonas Schlagowsky performed over 170 performances of the classroom play "Deine Helden - Meine Träume" by Karen Köhler in schools in Weimar and throughout Thuringia. The aim was to sensitize young people to the issues of right-wing extremism and racism during the performances in the classroom and in the subsequent follow-up discussions.
Jonas Schlagowsky also works in film and television. In 2014, he had a leading role in an episode of Tatort in Saarbrücken and starred in the feature film Zone by Christina Friedrich, which celebrated its world premiere at the Rotterdam 2024 Film Festival.
Jonas Schlagowsky has been working freelance since 2019 and lives in Berlin. In the 2022/2023 season, he performed alongside his projects with the Kula Compagnie at the Staatstheater Oldenburg, where he was seen as Leicester in “Maria Stuart”, and at the Theater Bonn in Shakespeare's “Tempest” as Trinkulo.
